The story of a place shaped by resilience, history, and the sea. From rugged cliffs and ancient tuckamore forests, to fishing villages, UNESCO designated landscapes, and remote coastal communities.

The Great Coastal Trail

Stretching across some of the most dramatic and culturally rich landscapes in North America, the Great Coastal Trail is more than a trail system. It is a long-term vision for community revitalization, sustainable tourism, economic resilience, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation.

The project connects coastal communities through a network of trails, experiences, heritage sites, ecological areas, cultural assets, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Along the way, it aims to strengthen local economies, attract visitors from around the world, encourage youth retention, and showcase the extraordinary identity of Newfoundland and Labrador’s northern coastline.

Trail as Catalyst

The Great Coastal Trail is being developed as an economic corridor — one that supports tourism growth, destination development, entrepreneurship, local employment, community wellness, and sustainable rural development.

Rooted in the belief that trails can transform communities, the Great Coastal Trail Authority works collaboratively with partners to help reconnect communities to opportunity, to each other, and to the land itself.

The Great Coastal Trail is a collective experience of the sea, sky, terrain, and stories that animate life on the Northern Peninsula.

The shell logo represents a dynamic, unfolding journey along the trail. It symbolizes transformation, forward movement, growth, and an expansive adventure.
